Foundation Board

History

Formed in 1991-92, and established in 1993, the Foundation Board embarked on a long-range plan to raise private funds to be used for educational support and to increase public awareness of the College.   Since 1992, the Foundation has actively raised funds with the intent of helping to keep COS at the forefront of educational quality by developing new programs, improving facilities, providing equipment, and offering student scholarships.

The funds raised by the Foundation Board benefit five areas of priority: 1) advanced excellence in teaching and learning; 2) student scholarships; 3) acquiring and supporting new technologies; 4) completing campus renovations and new building projects; and, 5) enhancing the arts.

Quality education depends on fiscal stability, well-maintained facilities and equipment, up-to-date technology, and a faculty and staff that are current with new and innovative advances in their fields.  Since its inception, the Foundation has worked to assist the Board of Trustees and College staff to maintain its standard of excellence.

The Board

The Foundation Board is fueled with members who are dedicated and committed to its mission.  The Board is comprised of community members committed to enhancing the College's educational strength and opportunities.

Contributions make it possible for the Foundation Board to accomplish its goals. Donors may make a cash gift, a gift of real estate, a bequest, or a life income gift. There are significant tax benefits for charitable gifts to the College.

In 1998 the Foundation contributed $15,000 to assist with the resurfacing of the track and renovation of the tennis courts. A group of community volunteers manage the Foundation's Weed Campus Eagle’s Nest Shop (Quality-Used Clothing and Merchandise Shop), and other activities on the Weed and Yreka Campuses have been funded throughout the past nine years.

Fund and friend raising events include:

  • Annual Golf Tournament
  • Annual Holiday Craft Fair
  • Annual Volunteer and Donor Recognition and Appreciation Banquet
  • Scholarship Fundraising Dinner and Coat / Dessert Auction
