Drought Severity from 1987-1992

The following six maps illustrate the 1987-1992 drought conditions throughout the United States. These maps are combined to create the animated version seen on the previous page. Notice that while most places across the United States received periodic relief from the drought, northern California and the Great Basin continued to be drier than average during the entire drought cycle.
