Flower: Red to reddish orange

Blooms: May to September

Leaves: Flat lance-like

Height: 1 to 3 feet

Stem: With or without long, soft hair in upper parts

Found: Dry open areas

Tidbits: According to the doctrine of signatures, Paintbrush was used to soothe burnt skin and to ease the burning bite of the centipede.
