Growth Form: Shrub with several slender, flexible stems.
Flower: Small, yellow, in flat-topped heads of 5 or 6 disk flowers.
Blooms: July to October
Leaves: Slender, grass-like, 1/2" to 2 1/2"; covered by a fine felt-like layer of gray-green to white hair.
Fruit: Achenes
Stem: Several leaves on each stem. Color is similar to the leaves.
Height: Up to 7 feet tall, ours are mostly between 3 and 5 feet.
Found: In arid regions on dry sandy or gravelly soils throughout the western states.
Tidbits: Important browse for deer and other ruminant herbivores.
