Figure 15: Two views of the Shasta Valley debris avalanche deposit. The left photo is a view southeastward across the deposit towards Mount Shasta. The small hills in the foreground are coherent blocks of lavas and pyroclastic rocks from ancestral Mount Shasta that were carried northward in the finer-grained matrix that surrounds them. The right photo shows a cross-section of one of the blocks, composed of layered pyroclastic and debris flow deposits, exposed in the wall of a quarry at the north end of the Lake Shastina dam.
