| Figure 5b: Hand sample and thin section photographs of a magnesium-rich basaltic andesite from Deer Mountain. The sample was collected from a tephra cone on the eastern flank of the Deer Mountain shield volcano. The large phenocrysts are olivine (Ol) and augite (Px); plagioclase is seen as small white rectangles scattered through the dark groundmass. Thin section field of view is 5 millimeters wide. | |
