Figure 5c: Hand sample photograph of an andesite from ancestral Mount Shasta and sketch of a thin section of an andesite from Mount Jefferson, Oregon that has a similar phenocryst assemblage (McBirney, 1968). The hand sample was collected from from an outcrop along the Everitt Memorial Highway. Both rocks contain abundant phenocrysts of hypersthene (Px) and plagioclase (Pl).
