What is Student Support Services?

Student Support Services (SSS) is a TRIO program federally funded by the United States Department of Education designed to assist students. The Program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with college requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of the program is to increase college retention, increase graduation rates of its participants, and facilitate the process of transition from a community college to a four-year college or university.

Our Services

Intensive academic counseling through college skills assessment and the development of a Student Educational Plan
Personal, career, and financial aid counseling
Direct financial assistance (must meet grant eligibility requirements)
Field trips to four-year college and university campuses in California and Oregon
Financial aid, scholarship, and four-year college application assistance
Cultural and social activities
Workshops related to student success

Student Support Services federal funding provides all program services and activities free of cost to program participants.

Who is Eligible?

The following criteria are used to select SSS participants. A program participant must:

Be a citizen or national of the United States or meet residency requirements

and

Have academic need (determined by factors such as high school or college GPA, placement in pre-college level courses among other requirements)

and at least one of the following

Have a disability (physical or learning disabled; vocational rehabilitation students included)

or

Be a first-generation college student (your parents/legal guardians do not have a B.A. or B.S. degree)

or

Be considered a low-income student (as determined by the United Sates Department of Education outlined in the table below)

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150% of the poverty level amount.

Tax information:
...A copy of your previous year's tax returns - 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ (independent students)
...or
...A copy of your parent's previous year's tax returns - 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ (dependent students)
...or
...Please speak to a staff member if you or your parents did not file a tax return
Copies of all COS transcripts dating before fall 1990 and/or other college(s) transcripts
