

Maria Elena Fernandez is a poet,
writer, teacher, and aspiring actor. She was also an education consultant and
multicultural trainer from 1990-1998. She holds a Master's Degree in English
and Creative Writing from California State University, Sacramento, and teaches
English Composition, Critical Thinking/Advanced Composition, Creative Writing,
and Literature courses. She had done advanced studies in Theater Arts at CSU,
Sacramento.
She has been teaching composition,
literature, and creative writing courses at the community college level since
1989. She has been at College of the Siskiyous since 1994. In addition to teaching,
Maria has extensive experience in the fields of vocational gender equity on
both the state and national levels; workforce diversity and staff development
training, and cultural diversity training specific to the Latino community.
In addition, she is the author of Mariposa: A Workbook for Discovery and
Exploration (1995), a text book written specifically for young Latinas
and published by the California Department of Education.
