The links below allow you to download a template for your English papers to be formatted according to MLA guidelines.  Each template contains all the necessary font and paragraph formats.  You will want to print these instructions before you begin the download.

OPTION 1: Do you prefer simply to use one of the templates below now to begin your next assignment?
OPTION 2: Do you prefer to save one of the templates below on your own PC so that you can access it any time you need to begin a new assignment?

OPTION 1:
"I prefer simply to use one of the templates below to begin my next assignment now."

If you choose this action, you should return to this web page every time you want to begin a new assignment.  Here's what you do:

Step 1: When you click one of the links below, your computer should prompt you to "Open it" or to "Save it to disk."  Select "Open it." NOTE: When you do this, your computer should launch your Word program.

Step 2: Begin typing:

1. Click on each line and follow the instructions.
2. Set the page header (where the page numbers appear) by following these steps:
1. Select VIEW on the menu bar.
2. Select Header and Footer from the drop menu.
3. Click on the line and follow the instructions.
4. To return to the main part of the document, click the Close button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

Step 3: Save your paper.  NOTE: Don't forget to give the document an appropriate file name for the assignment.

OPTION 2:
"I prefer to save one of the templates below on my own PC so that I can access it any time I need to begin a new assignment."

If you choose this action, you do not need to return to this web page every time you want to begin a new assignment.  Instead you can simply work in your Word program.  Here's what you do:

Step 1: When you click one of the links below, your computer should prompt you to "Open it" or to "Save it to disk."  Select "Open it."

Step 2: Once the document is open, do a "Save as."

Step 2A. Type a file name in the "File name" line.

Step 2B. IMPORTANT:Change the file type in the "Save as type" line.  Change the type to "Document template."

Step 2C. Click SAVE.

Step 3: Now, the next time you have to type a paper for your English class, just follow these simple steps.

1. Launch your Word program.
2. Click FILE on the menu bar.
3. Click NEW in the drop menu.
4. Click the icon for the "English" template.
5. Click OK.
6. Click on each line and follow the instructions.
7. Set the page header (where the page numbers appear) by following these steps:
1. Select VIEW on the menu bar.
2. Select Header and Footer from the drop menu.
3. Click on the line and follow the instructions.
4. To return to the main part of the document, click the Close button on the Header and Footer toolbar.
8. Save your paper.
