English 70
Instructors: Rita Browne, Carly Furry, Jackie McNamara, Cathy Ruiz, Charlie Unkefer
Lab Hours: 8 am to 8 pm M-Th, 8am-4pm F, 938-5325
The Course: The .5 unit course offers individualized instruction in writing. Students will use assigned texts, receive computer program instruction, and will work individually with Writing Lab staff.
Upon completion of ENGL 70 students will be able to:
Where: Course work will be completed in the Academic Success Center in the LRC Building.
When: Students may work on course work anytime the Academic Success Center is open.
Text and/or Materials Needed: Text or materials needed will depend upon your specific skill level and goals. You will meet one‑on‑one with the instructor to determine your skill level and to discuss your goals.
Grades: All final grades will be C/NC. Credit will be determined by the successful completion of 70% of the tasks assigned and hours completed (students must put in at least 20 hours in the Lab to receive credit).
General Course Policies: Students are expected to work on assigned tasks, behave appropriately in the Lab area, and ask for help whenever they need it.
How to Succeed: Because the course is self‑paced, you will need to be realistic about spending time in the Lab. Decide on a specific time each week, mark the time in your personal calendar, and don't procrastinate. COS also offers many resources to help ensure that your educational experience is a success. If you are having a problem succeeding in this course, or any other course at the college, discuss the problem with your instructor or advisor.
Assessment: Complete the minimum number of course hours, attend three conferences with an instructor or writing specialist, and complete an entry and exit writing assignment.
Withdrawal: Students are responsible for withdrawal. Forms are available at Admissions and Records.
Late work: Students must make arrangements in advance if they need to miss a class. Reasonable extensions will be granted. However, there will be no incompletes in this class.
Disabilities: Every effort will be made to accommodate students with disabilities. If you anticipate the need for reasonable accommodations to meet the requirements of this class, you must register with Disabled Student Services (Eddy Hall). If you qualify, please bring your official notification to your instructor as soon as possible.
Cheating: Cheating of any kind will result in the failure of the assignment.
