GUID 70: Becoming an Effective Student Instructor: Lab staff
Office Hours: 8 am to 8 pm M-Th, 8am-4pm F, 938-5325.
The Course: The 0.5 unit course provides students remedial skill improvement necessary for successful completion of college level courses. Includes assessment and review of basic math, writing, and reading skills. Maximum number of hours of lab use is 54.
Course Objective: The student will be able to do the following:
o Recognize and discuss personal basic skills strengths and weaknesses
o Improve basic skills via use of SkillsBank software program
Where: Course work will be completed in the Academic Success Center in the LRC building.
When: Students may work on course work any time the Academic Success Center is open (Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Text and/or Materials Needed: None.
Grades: All final grades will be C/NC. Credit will be determined by the successful completion of 70% of the tasks assigned and hours completed (students must put in at least 18 hours in the lab to receive credit).
General Course Policies: Students are expected to work on assigned tasks, behave appropriately in the lab area, and ask for help whenever they need it.
How to Succeed: Because the course is self-paced, you will need to be
realistic about spending time in the lab. Decide on a specific time each week,
mark the time in your personal calendar, and don't procrastinate. COS also offers
many resources to help ensure that your educational experience is a success.
If you are having a problem succeeding in this course, or any other course at
the college, discuss the problem with your instructor or advisor.
