The Faculty Diversity Internship Program (FDIP) is a paid internship program that brings interns from diverse backgrounds into the College of the Siskiyou community for training and hands-on experiences in our classes and programs. Our FDIP is distinguished from those at other California Community College because of the emphasis on online teaching and remote student services. Siskiyous interns gain valuable professional development and career exploration opportunities while our students and institution benefit from increased diversity, expanded faculty hiring pools, and new perspectives.
Ultimately, by attracting, recruiting, and providing advanced training for talented, aspiring faculty with diverse backgrounds and ideas, we hope to better serve our students. Specifically, we aim to:
Promote equitable achievement for students of all gender identities, and cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ensure Siskiyous students from underrepresented groups have role models from their gender category, race, ethnic, or cultural background who they can identify with and recognize as examples of high achievement.
Interns from across the region will be paired with Siskiyous faculty members in their academic discipline or student support area. In the fall, Interns will receive remote training in online teaching or student support topics and meet regularly with their mentor for one-on-one guidance and career advice. In the spring, Interns will work as an Expert Instructional Aides in their mentor's online class or student support area for 7 hours per week and complete an e-portfolio that includes examples of their work and a professional philosophy statement.
Faculty interns are committing to a year-long program that begins in the summer and ends the following spring. This is what an academic year 2023-2024 intern can expect in terms of timing.
April-May 2023: Eligible interns apply for the program.
June 2023: Interns attend a remote onboarding meeting with the Program Coordinator.
Summer 2023: Interns complete self-paced Canvas training (approximately 10-15 hours).
Late August 2023: Interns attend a Meet and Greet remote meeting.
Throughout the fall 2023 semester: Interns meet every 2 weeks with their mentor.
September 2023: Interns complete Online Teaching, Learning and Design (approximately 50 hours), FERPA training, or other relevant training.
Throughout the spring 2024 semester: Interns meet every 2 weeks with their mentor and complete 7 hours of work per week in their online class or student service area.
March 2024: Interns attend a 2-hour remote training workshop.
May 2024: Interns attend the FDIP symposium where they will present their e-portfolio.

Applicants for the Faculty Intern role must:
Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Meet one of the following educational requirements:
For interns in academic fields: Be an enrolled graduate student nearing completion of a Master's degree
For vocational fields:
Have a minimum of two years of full-time occupational experience in a vocational/technical area and be nearing the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in that field or
Have a minimum of six years of full-time occupational experience in a vocational/technical area and be nearing the completion of an Associate’s degree in that field
We are accepting applications from interns from April - May 2023 for our program that will begin in summer of 2023. Note that we are only looking for Faculty Interns in the disciplines listed on the College of the Siskiyous job opportunities webpage. To apply you will need:

Apply to be a Faculty Mentor
All Siskiyous faculty are eligible to apply to be FDIP Faculty Mentors. Special consideration will be given to teaching faculty members with online teaching training above the college's minimum requirements and/or courses that have gone through the Course Design Academy or other online teaching accomplishments. Teaching faculty must be planning to teach an online course in spring of 2024. For non-instructional faculty, special consideration will be given to faculty members with experience or training in offering remote services to students.
Faculty Mentors are expected to:
Attend the August Meet and Greet
Meet with their intern every 2 weeks throughout the academic year
Complete internship learning objectives and EIA role ideas form
Create opportunities for interns to engage with their spring term, online class or to complete a project in their non-instructional department in the spring
Provide interns with feedback on their e-portfolios
Attend the May FDIP symposium
Complete the program evaluation survey, and
Participate in a May campus tour if your intern comes to campus.
Mentors will be paid a stipend of $1000 at the end of fall and spring semesters.

A paragraph describing your commitment to equity-minded practices and the success of all students.
A list of accomplishments and/or trainings you have received in online teaching or supporting students remotely.
A list of courses you anticipate teaching online in the spring of 2024 or a description of one or two potential Faculty Intern project(s) in your student services area.
