Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) is an education program in which students can earn college credit through individualized work-based learning while they are working at paid jobs or as volunteers. Units can be applied to a College of the Siskiyous Associate degree and to transfer (at most colleges).
Students work with their employer or site supervisor to design their own learning objectives each semester, and apply knowledge gained in college courses with practical work experience to develop job readiness skills that are transferrable to future careers.
CWEE includes two types of work experience:
Each 75 hours of paid work equals 1 semester credit, and each 60 hours of volunteer or unpaid work equals 1 semester credit. Student volunteering or unpaid should enroll in General Work Experience. Per semester, a maximum of 6 units of general work experience or 8 units of occupational work experience can be earned. Students can take the work experience class up to four (4) times. A total of 16 units may be earned and applied to a AA/AS degree and/or transferred!
To get Cooperative Work Experience units, students must have a job or be approved to volunteer. To get started in earning those units, a student should review the "Information for Students" document, and then email our CWEE Coordinator at the email address below expressing interest in enrolling in a CWEE class. Students must get CWEE approval before registering for a CWEE course. It's easy! And we are here to help!
