Siskiyou Child Care Center at DCDC

Teacher and Student

Siskiyou Child Care Center at Discovery Child Development Center (SCCC at DCDC) is a collaboration between Siskiyou Child Care Council, a private non-profit agency providing a variety of services to children and families in Siskiyou County, and the Child Development and Early Education Program at College of the Siskiyous, an aligned California College program offering local and transfer Associate Degrees and courses leading to Child Development Permits through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

We are located on the College of the Siskiyous' Weed Campus at 800 College Avenue, Building 9. This program serves as a lab school for our Child Development and Early Education Observation and Practicum classes.

The Center offers families two programs. The first program is a half-day California State Preschool (Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 12:00 pm) for three and four-year-old children whose families qualify by income. The second program is designed for parents who are working or attending school and have a documented need for child care until 5:30 pm.

Our child enrollment schedules are based on the families' work and/or school schedules. Families qualify for this program by income, family size, and documented need for child care services. This program serves children ages 3 - 5 years of age.

Families that reside in the Weed Elementary School District boundaries may enroll their four-year-old children without establishing eligibility or a need for services.

We believe that every child is unique and of supreme worth. Early Education should be a non-stigmatizing, positive, child-centered experience. Our philosophy of education, the Developmental Interactionist Philosophy, is based on understanding of child development and a prepared environment. We believe that children learn, and process their world, through play.

Our program is licensed by Community Care Licensing under Title 22. Many of our early educators qualify for Child Development Permits under Title 5. We are currently in the process of Accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

SCCC at DCDC offers a nurturing environment designed to foster develop of authentic self-esteem, social-emotional development, independence, physical skills, creativity, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities through:

  • Social Interaction and Cooperation
  • Dramatic Play
  • Language and Literacy
  • Science and Math Experiences
  • Art and Music
  • Large and Small Group Activities
  • Indoor and Outdoor play in a Prepared Environment

The Center is open year-round, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, with the exception of major holidays. Parents are notified in advance of all holidays.
