Interpreting services are approved by a Disability Services Director/Counselor as part of a student's Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP). Services are provided when they are reasonable, effective, and appropriate accommodations. Scheduling interpreters requires advance notice (see below).
When the most appropriate accommodation is an ASL interpreter the Disability Services will provide interpreter services for all academic activities. This includes in-class activities and required out-of-class activities such as field trips, workshops, support hours, labs, etc. for classes in which the student is currently enrolled.
Meet with Disability Services Director/Counselor to map out class schedule and interpreter needs including field trips. Request the required ASL interpreting service as early as possible (6 weeks is recommended) prior to the semester starting.
Note: Notify Disability Services as early as possible when additional interpreting is necessary for unscheduled field trips, meetings with your instructors, etc. A minimum of five days notice is preferred, but we will do our best to fill your request on short notice
