Residents of Siskiyou County who are not COS students may obtain a COS community library card for a $20 fee per semester and summer session to borrow materials and use library computers. The COS library card is renewable each semester. Applications are available at the circulation desk. Please bring a photo ID and proof of residency in Siskiyou County. Children under 18 are not eligible for a library card and must be accompanied by a responsible adult when visiting the library.
The COS Library houses more that 50,000 volumes arranged in subject areas by Dewey Decimal classification, and about 75 periodical subscriptions shelved by title on open stacks. Also available are audio and video recordings, microfilmed resources, newspapers, pamphlets, plays, maps, and special reserve collection on local history and Mount Shasta. Online periodical and reference databases and more than 21,000 full-text eBooks are available on our website, including off campus access with a current library card.
Most books may be checked out for two weeks. Materials may be renewed if no one else is waiting for them. Renewals can be made by calling (530) 938-5331 or online. Books may be returned to the outside book drop or deposited in the book return slot at the circulation desk.
Most all circulating materials have a Friday due date. Materials not returned to the library by closing time on the due date are subject to a $1 (ONE DOLLAR) FINE PER ITEM, PER WEEK, UP TO A MAXIMUM FINE OF $5 PER ITEM. Borrowers with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional materials or use library computers until the overdue items are returned.
Library staff are trained and available to help you find books and other information, or to assist you in using the catalog and indexes or access information using resources such as the Internet and subscription databases.
Interlibrary loan service is not provided for non-student community borrowers.
A coin-operated photocopier is available (10 cents per page). A microfilm reader-printer is also available (25 cents per page, limit of 10 copies per session).
