The COS Library helps students succeed in their classes in many ways, such as free computer use, textbooks, and research help. For students interested in improving their English as a Second Language (ESL) skills, the Library offers:
To find books on learning English, look in the library catalog. The library catalog is the search box on the library's home page. Video tutorials showing how to search the catalog are on our Research Help page.
Ebooks are books that COS students can read for free online. They can be found using the library catalog or you can search each collection individually by visiting the "Ebook" section of the library's Articles and Databases page. The ebook collections that will be most helpful are Ebook Central and EBSCO eBook Collection.
Please contact library staff if you would like any help searching for books or ebooks.
The Library has audio CDs and interactive DVDs that teach English to native Spanish and native Laotian speakers.
The Academic Success Center (ASC) offers free one-on-one tutoring. While they do not offer formal ESL tutoring, staff is available to help you with writing assignments, as well as in math and other subjects. For more information, please call them at (530) 938-5830 or visit the ASC web page.
