This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary approach to the study of human movement. An overview of the importance of the sub-disciplines in kinesiology will be discussed along with career opportunities in the areas of teaching, coaching, allied health, and fitness professions. This course is an introduction to nutrition as a health science that examines the function of macro and micro nutrients and their relation to health. The metabolic action, requirements, and food sources of the nutrients are also studied. Diets for pregnant mothers, children, teenagers, and older adults are covered as well as the nutritional needs throughout the lifespan. Nutritional deficiencies and excesses as well as the recommended nutrient intakes and the role of diet in the development of chronic disease as well as diets for chronic illness and conditions are examined.
