Honor Women’s History Month by Joining AAUW Siskiyou Branch!

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Siskiyou Branch is dedicated to advancing gender equity for women and girls in Siskiyou County through advocacy, education, and philanthropy. We empower our local community by providing scholarships, fostering lifelong learning, and breaking down barriers to leadership. AAUW Siskiyou’s primary focus is fundraising to support TechTrek as well as student scholarships. TechTrek is a one-week, hands on summer camp hosted at UC Davis which connects seventh grade students to women role models in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). AAUW Siskiyou sends two seventh graders to TechTrek annually. AAUW Siskiyou’s next meeting is scheduled on Thursday, March 26 at 4:00 pm at the Wine Bar and Bistro located at 314 S. Broadway St. Yreka, California. At that meeting, we will be discussing Norah O-Donnell’s book, ‘We the Women: The Hidden Heroes Who Shaped America’. Today, and every day, we remember our Indigenous neighbors, students, and relatives.

Graduation 2026

If you have questions about Graduation 2026 or if you would like to help with the event, send an email to pio@siskiyous.edu.

Graduation will be held at the Weed Campus Football Stadium on Friday, May 15, beginning at 6:00 pm. All students who plan to participate in the ceremony should also plan to attend rehearsal to be held earlier in the day at 1:00 pm.

Reminder…Siskiyous Publicity (Creating Flyers, Programs, Digital Ads, and more)

Beginning April 24, 2026, all newly created digital content representing College of the Siskiyous must meet ADA Title II regs (accessibility – specifically on the college website and social media platforms). We are in the process of meetings with individuals / departments who post regularly on social media to go over the new requirements and provide helpful information and examples (dos and don'ts). We will also be scheduling 'drop-in' zoom sessions to help those who have questions and provide detailed information on what will be allowed to move forward in compliance with the new regs. Please remember, the new requirements have been established by the Department of Justice and we must comply.

Publicity, promotional, and marketing materials must be submitted to the Public Relations Office (email pio@siskiyous.edu) before being posted, printed, or distributed on campus and in the community. This includes images used in social media posts and other print publications. This process ensures that all materials meet branding and accessibility standards. Questions – send an email, call the office, or stop by for a chat. We are happy to meet and discuss.

To help with learning more about the ADA Title II regs, we have developed an Accessibility Webpage for our institution. This webpage contains resources that can assist with coming into compliance with the new ADA Title II regulations. In consultation with the California Community College (CCC) Accessibility Center, it is recognized that while 100% compliance is an ongoing challenge for all CCCs, our continuous efforts related to the Accessibility Capability Maturity Model (ACMM) are key. The Accessibility Center also has resources related to AB 2821.

Come Join Our Team

We are always looking for new volunteers to join the Eagle's Nest team. Volunteers work as cashiers, screening items as they come in, price merchandise, repair items, research antiques, etc. There is never a dull moment at the Eagles Nest. We are also looking for student workers. If you know of anyone who may be interested in volunteering or working as a paid student worker, have them call (530) 938-4663 or stop by the Eagle’s Nest Shop to speak with Angel Keen, Shop Supervisor.

Administrative Services

Facilities & Maintenance

Student Housing Complex

Information and updates regarding the project is posted on the Construction Projects webpage as it becomes available. The Student Housing project is officially underway.

The Student Housing project remains on schedule after accidentally locating the sewer line from Juniper Hall. A reroute is in place so the excavation work through parking lot D will not occur until after graduation.

Additional handicap parking near the Student Center will not be available as there will not be a safe route to establish per ADA requirements. If walking accommodation to the building is needed, call 5911 for cart ride assistance. The nearest handicap parking stall with direct route access is the parking lot next to the Science Building (Parking Lot E).

Theater Arts & McCloud Hall

The Theater and Mc Cloud Hall project bid was completed on April 9. A letter of intent has been sent to the lowest bidder, Modern Builders Inc. If no bid protests are received, we will present the contract to the Board of Trustees for approval on April 21.

Other Projects

  • The walkways on the outskirts of the Weed Campus will be repaired and replaced. Proposals have been approved, and the contracts are being drafted.
  • The step at Life Science (Building 3) West entrance and the walkway entrance nearest the Board Room in the Student Center (Building 1) will be replaced with safety credits for unsafe condition corrections.
  • All the Maintenance, Athletics, CTE small engine equipment is in the process of having professional services completed. This will add longevity to our fleet.
  • Due to continued issues with our original Turf Tank field painting robot, we have been selected for a free upgrade to a Turf Tank II system. We are excited to receive this upgrade.
  • The Cal Fire Deadwood Crew will be on campus May 13 and 14 to clean the Football Stadium and Soccer Stadium prior to Graduation.
  • Temporary help from Personnel Preference for the ground maintenance work has been secured. The team will begin to remove all foliage located five feet or closer to existing buildings. The exception is outdoor 'lab space' at the Science Building.
  • The six-foot fence behind the Football Press Box will be replaced prior to Graduation. For exact dates, continue to check the weekly All College emails for updated information.
  • Quotes are being accepted to repair the brick pavers around the Science Building.

Student Services

Vice President, Student Services

This past month I had the opportunity to attend the spring CSSO symposium. Each semester we gather as Chief Student Service Officers and we collaborate, connect, learn, and recharge our batteries. I have the privilege of serving as a member of the CSSO Executive Board as the Region 1 Representative. One of my primary tasks is to help plan our annual conferences and meetings. It is a big task to organize and plan events for hundreds of my colleagues, and it can be a little intimidating at times. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity, and I am grateful for the talented team that I work with from across the system.

On Thursday, April 23, College of the Siskiyous will co-host the annual 8th Grade Inspiration Day with SiskiyouWorks and their annual 8th Grade CTE Day. This year the event will take place in Yreka at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds. This is due to construction occurring on our campus. Thank you to Steph Wroten and Julissa Gonzalez for all their hard work on this project and helping to coordinate it all. Thank you to all those across campus who have volunteered to help present or participate. Additionally, we are grateful to Regina Hanna, Director of SiskiyouWorks, and all the work she has done to coordinate the event at the fairgrounds. These wonderful events do not happen without the assistance of so many.

Academic Affairs

Vice President, Academic Affairs

Dr Jeremiah Sims, Dr Mark Fields and Regina Hannah at NST Planning Summit.

On March 13, 2026, Dr. Jeremiah Simms, Dr. Mark C. Fields (Siskiyous), and Regina Hannah (SiskiyouWorks-C2C4S) represented our region at the North State Together (NST) Planning Summitt held at the McConnel Foundation in Redding. NST is a collective impact hub linking ten county networks creating strategic partnerships to help our region transform systems and expand access so that all students (K-16) have equitable opportunities.

This summit included a presentation from CivicLab on a regional planning process called the "Columbus Way" named after the city in Indiana (not Ohio) built on a philosophy of community engagement. Industrialist, arts patron, and civil rights activist, J. Irwin Miller, founder of Cummins Engine, helped to champion one of the most successful public-private partnerships in the country, earning the city the title of Athens of the Prairie. Lessons learned from this process can be used in planning at College of the Siskiyous.

Library

The library has been busy piloting an Escape Room experience for students, with the hope that it provides a fun way to learn about and engage with the library. Based on pre- and post-activity surveys, this strategy is working for students to know more about the library after completing the escape room, and comments such as "I liked the challenge!" and "I really liked the puzzles" make it sound like they are having fun!

Many thanks to the COS Foundation for awarding a mini grant to help pilot this activity and to Michelle Gaddini and her students for volunteering as testers. Participants are also having fun with our latest Book Club, where we are reading Tress of the Emerald Sea, by Brandon Sanderson. Employees as well as students are welcome, and it is not too late to join in! Our Book Club page has more info.
