Canvas Outage

Hello Siskiyous,

We have received approval from the Chancellor's Office to restore access to Canvas. However, our IT team must first complete several essential security protocols and system checks before the platform is fully back online.

We anticipate that Canvas will be fully accessible to all students and employees by 2:00 pm today (5/8).

We will continue to provide updates as soon as they become available. We truly appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through these final steps to get everything back up and running.

Hello Siskiyous Students,

We are writing to address the current nationwide outage affecting Canvas, our Learning Management System. We know this disruption comes at a high-stress time in the semester, and we want to reassure you that we are monitoring the situation closely and are committed to your success.

What Is Happening?

As of today, May 8, 2026, Instructure (the parent company of Canvas) is experiencing a widespread service disruption and cybersecurity incident affecting thousands of colleges and universities across the country. Because this is a nationwide event, the resolution timeline is currently unknown.

Important Guidelines for Student

  • Don't Panic: Your grades and progress are safe. We understand you may have upcoming deadlines, quizzes, or final projects.
  • Stay Informed: Your instructors are aware of the situation. Check your Siskiyous student email regularly, as this is currently our primary way to reach you while Canvas is down. Updates from the California Community College Chancellor's Office
  • Practice Security: Out of an abundance of caution, please do not attempt to log in to Canvas until you receive an official "all clear" from the College. Be vigilant against phishing emails or suspicious messages claiming to be from "Canvas Support" asking for your password.
  • Patience is Key: Instructors are being encouraged to offer flexibility regarding deadlines and submission methods.

Next Steps

Our IT team and Academic Affairs are working together to ensure that no student is penalized for this technical failure. We will post updates via COS Connect, our social media channels, and the College of the Siskiyous homepage as soon as we have more information.

We know how hard you have worked all semester. Take this unexpected "offline" time to breathe, focus on offline study materials, and rest. We are all in this together, and we will make sure you have the time and support you need to finish the term strong.

Stay safe and stay tuned.
