Tutoring at College of the Siskiyous is free, easy to use, and open to every student. No matter where you are in your learning journey, tutoring is here to help you level up.

Pear Deck Tutor

Summer 2025

During summer intercession, tutoring is offered remotely and available 24/7 through Pear Deck Tutoring. All COS students receive 4 free hours of remote tutoring per week!.

Whether you are looking to answer a quick question, dive into a deeper concept, or submit a paper for review, Pear Deck has you covered.

Pear Deck is a breeze to access through Canvas. Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Canvas course home page and click "Pear Deck Tutor" on the left menu
  2. Choose the subject you need help with.
  3. A box will pop up - type your question or upload an assignment prompt.
  4. A tutor will respond in a chat box. You can ask them questions to see if they're a good fit.
  5. If they're not the right tutor for you, wait for another to pop up and try again.
  6. Once you choose a tutor, your video session will start.
  7. If you like working with a tutor, you can message them later or schedule a session ahead of time!

Get Feedback on Your Writing

Working on a paper? We’ve got you!

Use Pear Deck's paper review tool to get helpful feedback in 12 hours or less - even on weekends.

Need help with an essay, research paper, or writing assignment? You can get helpful feedback - even if your paper isn't finished yet! Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Canvas course page and click "Pear Deck Tutor" in the left menu.
  2. Click the yellow "Get Tutoring Help" button.
  3. Choose "Submit Your Writing Assignment."
  4. Click the green "I understand" button.
  5. Add a title for your paper, the assignment instructions, and anything your tutor should know.
  6. Choose the format (like MLA or APA) and list 3 areas you want help with (like your thesis, organization, or grammar).
  7. Upload your paper as a .docx file (make sure it's under 25MB and the title is short).
  8. Click "submit" - and that's it!

  • At the Academic Success Center (ASC), you can drop in and meet with a tutor:
    • one-on-one
    • with your friends
    • online, 24/7
      • You can even schedule a tutor-led study group

To be a tutor, you'll need to:

  • Be enrolled in 6 or more units
  • Get an A or B in the subject
  • Have an instructors recommendation
  • Take a 1-unit tutor training class
