Sometimes a disabled student experiences a personal crisis that impacts his/her educational performance or goals. In such cases SAS offers a limited amount of personal counseling to assist the student in examining the impact of the crisis on school performance and their well-being. The SAS Director/Counselor may be able to assist the student with identifying priorities and exploring options when dealing with the crisis and/or to make suggestions for appropriate agencies or counselors in the community to whom the student might go for additional counseling.
The student may also be referred to the COS Mental Health Manager if the student, SAS Director/Counselor/staff feels the need for immediate intervention.
The student schedules appointments for personal counseling as needed. If the student feels the situation needs immediate attention, he/she/they indicate this to the SAS staff and requests the first available appointment or referral to the COS Mental Health Manager.
